MIT is the premiere science, technology and engineering university in the US and the world. Whatever we do with online education, we need to be the world leader in making it as accessible and inclusive to the widest possible audience. This means that we caption all videos, provide transcripts, have robust text descriptions of visual content, that we make sure the interfaces are consistent and accessible for keyboard only users and for those using other assistive technologies, such as screen readers or voice recognition software. None of this is difficulty to achieve, but it must be done early on in the process. For more information, please take a look at http://projectone.cannect.org/index.php , which has information on LMS accessibility. Making educational technology accessible has the added benefits of being more easily searchable, easier for those who do not use English as their first language and is also beneficial to those with lower bandwidth connections.
