Over the years, various forms and models of learning have evolved. It will be important as we build and transform education for the future that we don't lose sight of the importance of human interactions. Online learning enhances our modes of learning but cannot exist on it's own. Instead of thinking of "blended learning" - let's think of "balanced learning." A focus on the whole human and what is needed to create great people to go out and do great things in the world. Learning cannot be all classroom or all online or all in groups or all individual, it needs to be a combination of all these elements to best prepare students to be "balanced" humans and well prepared for what they face in the world. Social media, the web and online learning has enabled people to learn and absorb information at their own pace and based on what they find most interesting to focus on. What it has taken away is the ability for people to engage in conversation and build relationships. Educational models need to be "balanced" to require students to not only be "book bright" but worldly and able to engage in the world at all levels. As far as residential living and new models, think about how to bring learning to living - maybe some sort of way for group study or working groups in the residences to bring the online learning experience to life.
Not sure all the options that exists but I bet if you had some focus groups with students - they would be able to share ideas on how to build the "balanced learning" model of the future - and they would even help implement it!
