People learn very efficiently when they are engaged in a project and they find they need to understand something to make progress -- the learning is much more efficient than when someone is told to learn something because they might need it someday. Bring students to MIT who demonstrate the ability to actively engage in projects as opposed to simply acing their high school courses, and allow them to find ways to engage in projects when they arrive. Give them a way to engage in coursework in focused doses based on what they actually find they need along the way. Organize the entire undergraduate experience around a pull model of education instead of the push model that is prevalent today.
